Philly Beer Week Raffle

Win a Trip to Belgium at the Philly Beer Week Benefit Raffle on 12/21/2013 at Field House

PHILADELPHIA, PA – We know Philly beer drinkers are hearty souls and willing to trudge through snow for their favorite pint.  Still, we think everyone will have a better time if they don’t have to worry about getting home after a fun night at the taps.  With that in mind, we cancelled the original raffle date scheduled for December 10, at 7 p.m and rescheduled it for Saturday, December 21 at 2 p.m.Philly Beer Week (PBW) will host their annual Win a Trip to Belgium Raffle at Field House (1150 Filbert Street, 215-629-1520). Online ticket sales will continue through December 20 – and, because we are so sorry to disappoint you, additional prizes have been added:  an expenses-paid pub crawl with Joe Sixpack for two guests, including a chauffeured trip to the best bars in Philadelphia;  a full case of Philly Beer Week’s 2014 collaborative brew;  and various merchandise and gift cards from our favorite participating breweries and restaurants.

Guests will also have an opportunity to mingle and “vote” for their favorite local brewers. The grand prize remains unchanged as one lucky winner will travel to Belgium, courtesy of importer Vanberg & DeWulf, with his or her favorite brewer and consult on Philly Beer Week’s annual Belgo Collaboration beer, this year with Belgium’s youngest female brewer, Anne Catherine Dilewyns of Brouwerij Dilewyns.

Raffle tickets are $5 each, or 5 for $20. They can be purchased online before the event at PhillyBeerWeek.org (http://phillybeerweek.org/pbw_raffle.cfm). Secondary prizes, including baskets of cheer, gift certificates from local bars and restaurants, and event tickets, will also be awarded.

“Our annual trip to Belgium is one of the high-water marks of the pre-PBW season, and we look forward to another great turn-out for this exciting event,” says PBW Executive Director Don Russell.  “This is a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity, both for the lucky winner and for the brewer chosen to accompany him or her, and every year we look forward to offering them this chance – and to reaping the delicious benefits when we unveil their special beer at Opening Tap.”

The PBW 2014 Collaborative Brew will be created in cooperation with Brouwerij Dilewyns and imported by Vanberg & DeWulf, who will provide the winner’s and brewer’s airline tickets and hotel rooms for the whirlwind expedition, and previously partnered with PBW and Brasserie Dupont in 2012. At the raffle event, guests will have the chance to mix and mingle with the participating brewers, and enjoy specialty brews from each. The Field House will serve its popular menu of beer-friendly pub fare, along with 40 local draughts.

Philly Beer Week 2014 will be held from Friday, May 30 until Sunday, June 8.  Established in 2008 as a celebration of America’s Best Beer-Drinking City, PBW is the largest beer event of its kind in the United States, featuring hundreds of festivals, dinners, tours, pub crawls, tastings and meet-the-brewer nights throughout greater Philadelphia.  PBW highlights the region’s diverse beer scene – its world-class breweries, neighborhood taverns, trend-setting restaurants and rich beer culture and history.

Cutty Sark Prohibition Edition

Cutty Sark Brings Back The Real “Real McCoy”

New Release Honors the Legacy of a Rebellious Spirit

NEW YORK, NY (December 13, 2013) – Cutty Sark is announcing a new edition to its line of blended Scotch whiskies. A nod to the brand’s origins during the Prohibition era, Cutty Sark Prohibition Edition Blended Scotch Whisky pays tribute to the style of liquid consumed during the 1920s.

Cutty Sark Prohibition Edition (coined “Cutty Pro” by its early adopters) salutes the notorious Captain William McCoy, who courageously smuggled Cutty Sark into American speakeasies. McCoy possessed an infamous reputation as a distributor of the highest quality products, always genuine and never adulterated, giving rise to Cutty Sark’s affectionate nickname, “The Real McCoy.” The black opaque bottle design and cork seal are a respectful hat tip to the type of whisky bottles prevalent during the Prohibition era.

“This blend is created with exact precision as Captain McCoy himself would approve to celebrate the 80th anniversary of such a significant era,” said Kirsteen Campbell, Cutty Sark Master Blender. “We look forward to sharing this whisky with those who possess the same free spirit as McCoy’s original fans did in the 1920s.”

Cutty Sark Prohibition Edition is handcrafted in Scotland in small batches from top quality grain and single malt whiskies, matured in American Oak casks and bottled at 50% ABV (100 proof).

Tasting Notes:

The full flavor of Cutty Sark Prohibition Edition is composed of black pepper and toffee notes with a subtle hint of vanilla and citrus fruits and a smooth finish due to its cold filtration process.

  • Appearance: Warm golden color
  • Nose: Soft, ripe citrus fruits, honey and vanilla
  • Palate: Creamy richness, hints of toffee with peppery notes
  • Finish: Smooth with subtle hints of spice

Cutty Sark Prohibition Edition is available now in select markets, rolling out nationwide throughout 2014 with a recommended retail price of $29.99.
