It’s almost Halloween, which makes now a perfect time to get some scary reading done. Here are five books to get you started.

Amber House by Kelly Moore

After her grandmother dies, sixteen year old Sarah Parsons goes to hunt for lost diamonds in a house her family owned for 300 years. Joining her are Jackson, her friend, and Richard, whose family has history with hers. Can we say love triangle? She then gets visions of what went on inside the house in the past. But then, her visions turn out to be not so innocent and she has to uncover the secrets of the house.

Miss Peregrine’s Home for Peculiar Children by Ransom Riggs

This book is worth reading just for the creepy pictures scattered among the pages. Sixteen year old Jacob goes to the orphanage his grandfather grew up in after he dies. Thing is, these kids were known to be quite ‘peculiar’ (and a little disturbing) and they might still be alive.

The Body Finder by Kimberly Derting

Sixteen year old Violet Ambrose can sense dead bodies. Recently, a serial killer has started killing young girls in her town. Of course, there is a romantic interest, Jay Heaton. Violet decides to use her power to catch the killer.

I Hunt Killers by Barry Lyga

Seventeen year old Jasper Dent is the son of a convicted serial killer. Now, murders are occurring all over his hometown and he’s one of the suspects. To prove his innocence, he joins the search for the murderer.

Unwind by Neal Shusterman

This book is set in a world where children’s live are protected until they’re thirteen years old. Until they turn eighteen, their parents can have them turned into donor organs. Three teenagers, Conner, Risa, and Lev, try to flee from their fate.
