Books About ‘Home’

I’m sharing a few of my favorite past and present reads about the way we live (and can live more happy, efficiently, organized, etc.) in our homes. Fall is the perfect time of year to cozy up and read, and each of these is well worth your time!  I just picked up Happier at Home after seeing it at Target and having read Gretchen Rubin’s first book, The Happiness Project.  Happier at Home is more focused on reconnecting with our homes and and “factors that matter for home, such as possessions, marriage, time and parenthood.”

Books About ‘Home’

I read At Home: A Short History of Private Life by Bill Bryson on our honeymoon and found it fascinating. It’s a wonderful historical perspective on each of the present-day rooms in our homes, and has provided some great insight into some of the quirkier things we’ve wondered about in living in our 100+ year old house (chimney in the dining room?).

Mary and Russel Wright pioneered modern design and informal living and wrote their Guide to Easier Living in 1950.  Along with simple furniture designs (think easier to clean plastics) and casual furniture arrangements, the Wrights sought to “discard rigid, old-fashioned patterns and create a new informal standard.”

Do you have any other recommendations? I’ve been a bit “meh” about decor magazines lately, and would love some good home/lifestyle-related books.

XO,
Heather
