Booking.com Partners with Ladies Learning Code to Support Female Developers This International Women’s Day

By Trendytechie @theTrendyTechie

The tech industry has matured to the point where working in tech no longer necessarily means knowing how to code – but giving code a try can help non-devs in tech better understand their customers and company goals. This International Women’s Day, and for the duration of the month, Booking.com has partnered with Ladies Learning Code to present #BookingFEMpowers: A Ladies Learning Code Beginner Workshop series!

At Booking.com’s kickoff event on March 1st, hosted in their gorgeous office space above Toronto, we were treated to a vibrant panel discussion about women in tech. Among the panelists were Canada Learning Code founder Melissa Sariffodeen and DotHealth CEO and Co-Founder Huda Idrees, who shared their stories and opinions on tech’s state of inequality. It is always inspiring to hear stories of the successful, tenacious women pushing the boundaries and shaping our world with tech.

Torontonians can get a taste of web development with the two-part #BookingFEMpowers workshop, hosted by Ladies Learning Code and sponsored by Booking.com. On the evenings of March 21st and March 28th, learn basic building blocks of HTML and CSS and how they work together to create richer online experiences. Attendees will learn how to create a rich, multi-page website with images, video, and a CSS-defined layout – and this workshop is designed with beginners in mind, no prior experience necessary! Learn more and get your tickets here.

Booking.com’s own workforce is 50% female, with approximately 20% females in their tech departments, including strong women in leadership roles. Workshop attendees will also be eligible to enter the #BookingFEMpowers contest for a chance to win a grand prize of $500 travel credit on Booking.com and, most excitingly, a 1-hour professional mentorship session with a top female tech leader at Booking.com! To enter, attend the workshop and post about a woman who inspires you on Instagram or Twitter with the hashtag #BookingFEMpowers. The winner will be announced at the beginning of the final workshop on March 28th.

Happy International Women’s Day, everyone!
