WHAT IT'S ABOUT
In a future less than fifty years away, the world is still as we know it. Time continues to tick by. The truth is that it is ticking away.
A powerful few know what lies ahead. They are preparing for it. They are trying to protect us.
They are setting us on a path from which we can never return.
A path that will lead to destruction; a path that will take us below ground.
The history of the silo is about to be written.
Our future is about to begin.
This is the sequel to the New York Times bestselling WOOL series.
OPENING PARAGRAPH
Troy returned to the living and found himself inside of a tomb. He awoke to a world of confinement, a thick sheet of frosted glass pressed near to his face.
WHAT I THOUGHT
I thought Shift was brilliant. Howey's books are becoming my favourite dystopian books. I've got a soft spot for dystopian fiction. I could read about Silo forever.
Shift fills in a lot of questions left unanswered by Wool. I really enjoyed reading about all of the events that led to what happened in Wool. The history of the Silo and their inhabitants was fascinating reading. I felt moved, saddened, shocked and horrified over and over as I read First Shift: Legacy, Second Shift: Order and Third Shift: Pact. I enjoyed reading more about what happened to Jimmy/Solo, an important character in Wool. I liked the way the narrative moves around in time switching between what's happening in different silos. I'm looking forward to finding out what crazy stuff happens in Dust.
Shift is great and I'd highly recommend it.
