Review
I was exhausted so I tried reading tagalog romance stories in Wattpad but to my disappointment, I can’t seem to enjoy them. So I decided to browse my reading list folder in my Kindle and randomly picked this book, and it was absolutely a great choice.
This story started when Janie was fired from her job, on the same day that she found out about her boyfriend of 5 years cheating on her. You think it’s just that? Well, that day was also the “worst day” of her life. The heel of her shoes broke, her shirt was stained, and the cubicle she entered in the rest room doesn’t have a toilet paper. What the right? But atleast she was given a consolation when she was escorted with the handsome head of security of the company, which she is silently eyeing for quite a while now. She thought that it was going to be the first and last time she’ll look into the eyes of the oh-handsome security hottie, but it’s just the start of something exciting.
When I was starting with the first chapter, this story already got my attention. Though it wasn’t more on the dialog part, which I’ll tell you this story only has a few of them, I can’t still will myself to set this book aside. I’m not really that patient, so I have to admit that I’ve skipped some lines, especially when I’m on its thrilling parts so I could get to the dialogues lol.
The story was just awesome. It was obviously well-written and is very entertaining. I can’t even count how many times this book made me laugh, and ofcourse squeal in delight because of those romantic scenes and sweet lines from its characters. Compared to the previous romance books that I’ve read, this story is really not that romantic at all when you base it on the lines or scenes but, I really don’t know why it affected me so much to the extent of biting my lower lip just to keep myself from shouting or squealing, which mind you, I am still doing it while writing this review, haha.
I also like that this story didn’t gave me the feeling of “too intense”, though I wouldn’t say that it would be bad, but I like that even if it’s romance, this book made me feel excited, in love, happy without that heavy feeling. I like that this story is somewhat refreshing and so easy to comprehend on what’s happening to its characters. And for the record, it’s romcom! And I love love romcom! I also love the addition of friendship and a little action, which turned out to be funny. Why is that? You really need to read this book to find out, and look for the knitting group fighting three burly goons, haha, absolutely a winner!
The story line was surprisingly new to me, and I love that the scenes are not cliché and the executions of lines was perfect. I was never a fan of love at first sight, and whenever I encounter a story or a movie with that concept, I can’t help but be annoyed. But deym! This story didn’t gave me that annoying feeling at all.
I’m sure for everyone, this story would have been perfect, but unfortunately for me, it wasn’t. For a non-native English speaker, it was quite hard for me to proceed reading this story. There’s numerous terms or words used in this story that I don’t quite understand, so I basically spent almost 1/4 of my time double tapping the words for its meaning. I am always bold to say that I hate story that comprises not so very reader-friendly words, but thinking about it now, I just realized that it could a be a good thing. Why? Because it increases your vocabulary, but I think it isn’t ideal to put those not so reader-friendly terms on every sentences right? Let alone 3 unfriendly words in one sentence eh?
But what’s great with this story was that I was still able to enjoy it. No, actually, I love it! I really really really love it!
I really can’t salute enough the author for its characters because they’re perfect. Not the idea of “perfect” that you are thinking, but perfect because the author was able to create them not having perfect appearances, experiences, and attitudes, but she added flaws in them, which is actually what all of us is. And they’re not even sounded like you just put them in it for the sake of negativity towards its characters but it sounded normal. Which mind you, we can absolutely relate.
Janie’s (female lead) character was actually unique. I’m not really a fan of a person who talks like a walking encyclopedia, but I really enjoyed her character. I don’t even feel any animosity towards her considering that I am head over heels to Quinn (male lead). And I think that’s a good thing eh?
And speaking of Quinn, oh my! I just can’t help myself whenever I read his name. All those things he did and all those words he said to her keep crossing my mind which left me grinning like crazy. I love how he was briefly yet concisely described by the author, which to be honest, I feel like he’s really a real person, like he’s standing in front of me right now haha. And I like that, it just simply means that, the author writes this story convincingly.
Also, I love the fact that the author ended this story with Quinn’s POV, though I find it quite disappointing that we weren’t able to read a part where he explained how he started liking her. But all’s good, I was still happy with his POV hehe.
This is my first time reading a story from the author, but seeing that this book is in series, this definitely wouldn’t be my last. And I guess I’ll be stalking someone in a bit, haha.
So far, the only concern I have with the story was the words used, but I know deep in my heart, this story deserves a 5-star rating. Read this story, and know why.
