Sypnosis:
Sara is obsessed with rock star Tyler Vincent, and as she works to complete her senior year, she’s determined to find a way to meet him—although her best friend, Aimee, keeps telling her to find a different escape from her desperately violent home life.
Complications arise when Dale, the mysterious new transfer student, sets his sights on Sara, and she falls for this rock-star-in-the-making in spite of her better judgment. When Sara wins a contest, she is faced with a choice—travel to Tyler Vincent’s home town to meet him, or stay and support Dale in a Battle-of-the-Bands hosted by MTV.
Their triangulated relationship is pushed to its breaking point, but there is another, deeper secret that Dale’s been keeping that just may break things wide open…
Turn up your collar, feather your hair, and splash on some Polo, because we’re going back to the ‘80’s when MTV played music videos, there was no such thing as American Idol, and becoming a star meant doing nothing short of crazy for that one, big break.
Review:
This book have been sitting idle in my reading list, I’m not even sure if it’s been a year or more than that. And since I’ve been craving for romantic books these past few days because obviously I’m still having Free Falling hangover, yeah, it’s been this crazily long. But I figure out that maybe I could stop it by reading suspense stories so that’s why I chose this book. And guess what? It’s a romance story, haha. I thought it was suspense because of its cover, lol. But since I am already reading it, I just decided to continue.
I don’t usually read book summary or book preview when I am going to pursue a certain book the same day that I’m going to read it, but this time, I broke the routine! Well, not deliberately but accidentally. I was curious with the book so I’ve read it from its cover until I reached the summary part, which I didn’t even know that it is lol. I even had to browse back and read it again to prove to myself. But surprisingly, it didn’t even occur to me that it’s a romance story and not suspense, haha, how dense could I be?! lol.
What I also noticed in this book is that it made me feel interested to it. I like mystery so maybe the mysterious character of Dale pulled me into it. As I’ve said above, I accidentally read the sypnosis so it was kinda intriguing what would be the secret Dale is hiding. I’ve made some prediction as usual, but as I continued, I’ve doubted them, until I finally got some clue and wooolah, I guessed it right. Wohooo!
I haven’t read other stories with somewhat the same plot so that makes this story more interesting. I don’t think I don’t like it, but I have to mention that both the characters were engaged in a whirlwind romance and who would have thought that Sara would fall in love to someone who looks like her ultimate crush, lol. I’m not sure, but I think the whole thing about how their relationship started was somewhat unrealistic, if it’s realistic, maybe it only has 1% chance to happen in real life. I think all of it just happened too fast. Though I have to say that I enjoyed it. I love to read a book where a guy is totally in love with his heroine. I love to read the lines where the guy is really doing an effort to make the girl happy, so I guess all those uncertainties I had just wiped out. I guess what matters is the happy ending eh? I’m not sure if what I thought happened really did happen, so I’ll just wait until I can acquire the second book eh? This story totally did its purpose, I totally fell in love. Also, there’s no ex-girlfriend who came back from the grave, so that’s really a relief eh? And guess what? This story isn’t just purely romance but it also talks about family. Isn’t that nice? I have to say I also enjoyed the guessing game! Who would have thought that I’ll be playing guessing game in this kind of story eh?!
When I was reading its first chapter, I was really confused with the characters. There’s only 5 significant characters introduced but I still mixed them up. I think that’s because they’re not properly introduced or maybe I’m just out of my mind lol. So far, the story is well written, there’s quite some few words that I need to consult the dictionary for its meaning, but overall it didn’t annoy me.
I don’t remember that I’ve read a part where Sara and Dale (main characters) were completely described physically in this story. Maybe there was but I forgot? lol. But I can clearly picture out Dale (honestly, I don’t find his name sexy and it doesn’t fit with his Rockstar image), the oh-so-hot Rockstar. You would have known by now that I am quite attracted to bad guys, but I am also attracted to rockstars or musicians (I’ve got a lot of rock band songs in my playlist than any solo singers do haha), that’s why I can also relate to Sara’s character (me imagining Dale shirtless, barefoot and playing a guitar [squeal afterwards]). I’m not sure if there’s some characters in this story that I hate, but I can’t deny the fact that I am quite fascinated with Dale, well, not to the extent that he will be added to my list of book crushes, but he’s almost there. The lines of each characters were properly written so you wouldn’t feel like you are reading a line from a guy who sounded gay, or a girl who sounded like a guy (if you know what I mean haha).
There were quite some questionable scenes in this story that I’ve bumped into, and until now I’m still guessing whether I’ve just overlooked the answer? I can’t really say what they are for it would absolutely spoil the story, so I’ll just leave it there. I’ve just mentioned it because that’s the reason why I haven’t lit the remaining 1 star for my rating. So far, no complaints with the author, so I guess a little stalking would be possible, lol.
And oops, I almost forgot, this story has some numerous SPG so beware haha lol.
