Sypnosis:

Nevada Baylor is faced with the most challenging case of her detective career—a suicide mission to bring in a suspect in a volatile case. Nevada isn’t sure she has the chops. Her quarry is a Prime, the highest rank of magic user, who can set anyone and anything on fire.

Then she’s kidnapped by Connor “Mad” Rogan—a darkly tempting billionaire with equally devastating powers. Torn between wanting to run or surrender to their overwhelming attraction, Nevada must join forces with Rogan to stay alive.

Rogan’s after the same target, so he needs Nevada. But she’s getting under his skin, making him care about someone other than himself for a change. And, as Rogan has learned, love can be as perilous as death, especially in the magic world.

Review:

When I read a perfect 5-star review about a certain book from Ilona Andrews, it didn’t occur to me that I will be reading one of her books next. So when I opened my Kindle and saw this book, Burn for me, I just said why not? And dang! I couldn’t have been right.

The story started with an introduction on how there’s some people who were able to acquire magic. On how a single serum that was created by some scientists let a person acquire his own power. They took the serum away but it’s already too late, more people have powers and it passed on generations to generations. Families marry for power to become stronger and there’s some house feuds because of it. Now that’s a book introduction I’ve been looking for!

After a brief yet concise introduction, we’re then greeted by a prologue that happened just a few weeks ago. We were introduced by a certain house which is Rogan. This woman named Kelly, went to House Rogan to ask for his cousin Connor’s help for her son’s safety. She was banished from the family a long time ago but she risked going to his place because of his son, after telling him what she wants, he said he would help. Connor or is also known as Mad Rogan has a bad and dangerous reputation that’s why it was a surprise that he agreed to help.

On the next chapter, were finally introduced to Nevada, yep, that’s her name. She’s a truthseaker mage, and doesn’t belong to a rich and popular family but got a rare power. They got a family business which is an investigative agency that is currently on mortgage because of her father’s hospital bill before. She’s the eldest of the family, so after her father died, she became the breadwinner. Her mother was a retired military and got a bad limp because of it.

After that chapter, all scenes were getting more interesting. Anticipation fueled me and I can’t seem to stop reading. When Adam Pierce, which was named as the main suspect in this story finally meet Nevada, the suspense then escalated to excitement. Well, not really. It was because of her grandma’s weird fascination to good-looking young men that got me excited, and excites me even more to meet “the guy” for Nevada. Adam has a bad boy image and if you know me already, I’m into bad boys, but surprisingly, I wasn’t thrilled than what I expected I would be when I found out about Adam liking Nevada. But when Connor, or I should have just call him Mad Rogan since it really really suits him came into picture, dang! All heck broke loose!

I admit I still find it quite sweet when Adam is being mentioned, but with Mad Rogan? Dang! It was sexy and dangerous and I love it. Yep, you read it right, I love it! He’s a different kind of dangerous and bad boy which really attracts not just Nevada but also me. It’s not just about his good looks, body, money, and superior power but he just screams “pick me” without putting any effort. Haha, I just realized for the past few minutes that I’ve been writing all about him lol. But seriously, all the magic, suspense and such we’re interesting, but with Mad Rogan in it, it’s more than just that. It’s exciting, dangerous and screams sexy. Yass!

I am totally in love with the idea. I love magic, power and anything related to it so there was no surprise that I was really into this story. I’m so happy to find out that the brilliant idea didn’t turn to waste because the author made sure to satisfy our expectations and I think it went far to what I expected. All happened too fast too that sometimes I find it hard to understand the fight scenes that it really took me quite a lot of time to finally sink in and picture out the scene. Well, I guess I’m just really that slow lol.

There’s quite a lot of characters and I’m not confident enough that I could name them all, but it was definitely fine since most of the time we got to deal with just Nevada and Mad Rogan, and sometimes with her cousin Bern or her employer Augustine. I’m more of a dialog reader that’s why it was quite impressive that I barely skipped some lines in this story considering it’s more on action and there’s a little dialog. The only thing I find it hard to keep up with this story were some terms used, I’m not talking about the words you can find in the dictionary but the fictional terms. They’re easy to read of course but what they means sometimes takes me some time to familiarize and sometimes I forgot what they mean lol. But overall, it was still a very occupying read.

I don’t think I still need to talk more about the main characters since I unconsciously talked about Mad Rogan a while ago lol. And it’s not even enough. Mad Rogan isn’t a guy that a single paragraph or even a single post wouldn’t be enough to describe him, so I’ll just say that he’s mysterious. Not the bad kind of mysterious but a good and sexy kind. And I’ll let you discover that yourself. *wink

And for the sake of Nevada, I guess I need to have a little introduction eh? Well, Nevada is 25 years old and her power as she perceived it is useless but pretty much come in handy in their line of work. She got to know if a person is lying without putting too much effort. After her father’s death, together with some younger cousins, she took over the business and most of their clients were small time like insurance fraud, finding out a cheating spouse etc. But all of that changed when she was assigned to find Adam Pierce, a prime pyrokinetic yet headstrong son of one of the riches and prominent houses in Houston, comprehend him and surrender him alive to his family. She lives in a moral way so she never had killed anyone until she met Mad Rogan and engaged into some dangerous situations which usually because of Adam Pierce. He became obsessed with her that he even tried to kill her family so she could be free. I know it’s going to be a spoiler but after what I wrote about Mad Rogan, I’m pretty sure you already know who’s Nevada’s hero lol. It was obvious that she really want Mad Rogan but with his reputation and their different state of life, she keeps on rejecting him. It was even impossible to think how could she even turned him down after those shattering makeup session lol. Yep, there’s definitely a lot of romantic scenes between the two and it was hot as f!

The conclusion of this story were somewhat too easy, and also, if the whole Houston district is in danger, how come it’s only Mad Rogan and Nevada went to confront the psycho Adam. Well, I think that’s just how it is.

It’s the first book of the Hidden Legacy novel but there’s definitely no rotten and irritating cliff hanger, if there is, then it’s the irritation to finally know the conclusion of Nevada and Mad Rogan’s lovestory lol.

It’s my first time from the author and I have to say that I’m really impressed. The story line, the words used and the execution of lines were flawless. It’s the first book in the series so I think it’s fair that I’ll give it a 4.5 star rating and let’s see what happens next on the second book.

If you want an adventure fantasy story that will not just boil your blood for excitement and anticipation but will also melt your heart because of the sexy romantic scenes between the leads, then Burn For Me by Ilona Andrews is definitely a perfect one for you.
