Welcome back to The Shade…
“Of course you know who I am. I’m a daughter of the darkness just as surely as you are his son…”
Ever since his brief encounter with Emilia at The Shade, Derek’s thoughts and dreams have been haunted with images of the mysterious, beautiful brunette. Plagued with guilt, he struggles to understand why he is so drawn to this dark stranger from his past.
When Emilia suddenly appears again on the island, Derek is both terrified and intrigued. But this time, he is determined to involve Sofia and discover who this woman is.
If only Derek and Sofia knew, Emilia is a mystery that should be left undiscovered…

I read on because I just want to know how all this rubbish will be resolved. The books really are all bleeding into each other.
I made a jump for joy when the new stupid love triangle ended. I hated the first one, but I hated this one more. At one point Derek was all like You are being an absolute fool when he was with Emilia and all I could think is yes, yes you are. Forever and always a fool.
I had my suspicions that was actually in fact Cora from before Derek went to sleep ever since she first showed her now apparently Derek approved face. I hated this. Just… gah.. So much hatred. I LIKED Cora. Why oh why Forrest did you have to go and destroy such a good character by turning her into this poisonous bloody member in the love triangle. Two crimes to the series were done in this single act.
I had issues with the whole culling thing. For ages they make the culling sound like it happened years and years ago, but then I encountered a section that made it sound like it was within the last few years and this greatly confused me. If it happened so recently why on earth did they choose to do the first culling? The timeline for the culling has gotten confused and I cannot make sense of it. Important history things like this need to stay fixed and well planned and thought out and I didn’t think this was.
So Ingrid died in this one. I don’t believe it though. Her death seemed really quick and just from stupidity, so I have feelings that they might bring her back somehow. But she may not, I could be wrong. So in the book they think they have the cure idea down and decided to test the theory out on Ingrid because if they are wrong it means she dies! Except, despite all the hints that any cure must be done with immune blood like Sofia’s they decided to test with normal bloody human blood so of course she dies.
They get it right with Derek though of course. I also think this was a really silly thing for them to do, turn Derek human. Yes, at the end of the series it would make the most sense cause then they could be together. Right now though they have impending doom coming at them from all sides and they really could use kingly vampire strength and power but instead its decided that Derek should become human and go on a little trip for three months with Sofia and they just leave everyone high and dry. Sooooo annoying. Derek is supposed to love his sister, this is pretty much leaving her to the wolves and everyone with the risk of getting blown up/confined. The idea is put out there by the first big bad vampire guy that Derek is supposed to be stronger as a human but I don’t see that at all.
I know all this seems really negative. I think its just gone on a little too long for me. I did like bits from memory, but by the time I got to the end of the book I didn’t remember what they were. I know I like Kyle and find Anna and his story really cute though. I hope they end up together.
I think this series ends in like two books. I wish it was the next. I want answers and I don’t know how much more of this I can tolerate.
Till Next Time…
