Blue Angel #7 creates a vapor cone during a high speed pass at the San Francisco Fleet Week Airshow. A vapor cone is a visible cloud of condensed water that can sometimes form around an aircraft moving at high speed through moist air at transonic speeds.  Parts of the aircraft may be supersonic while others remain subsonic, causing shockwaves to form. Across these shockwaves there is ‘discontinuity’ in the local air pressure and temperature. This causes the air to lose its capacity to hold water and condensation starts to form, creating the vapor cone.  Nikon D500 w/Tamron 150-600mm.
