A B-52H on display in “Celebrity Row,” a three-quarter-mile-long section of road where one model of each aircraft stored at the Davis-Monthan AFB 309th Aerospace Maintenance and Regeneration Group “boneyard” is displayed. The AMARG takes care of nearly 4,000 aircraft, which makes it the largest aircraft storage and preservation facility in the world. There are currently 95 Stratofortresses in storage here, a mix of G & H models. In 2019 one of the B-52s in storage was selected for resurrection to replace one lost in a 2016 crash. First flown in 1952, the indefatigable B-52 is expected to serve into the 2040s. Superior performance at high subsonic speeds and relatively low operating costs have kept the B-52 in service despite the advent of newer, more advanced aircraft. As of 2020, 76 of the original 744 B-52 aircraft are operational in the U.S. Air Force. Nikon D500 w/18-200mm.
