Another image from recent reverse operations at SFO, capturing this United 787 climbing out after takeoff from runway 10R. Reverse operations are a weather-driven scenario where the airport traffic operates in a reverse flow due to changes in wind direction. This Dreamliner shows the new livery revealed in April 2019, the first new livery since United and Continental merged, comprising three different blues, which United describes as Rhapsody Blue, United Blue, and Sky Blue. United currently operates 35 of these 787 aircraft in their fleet. United was also the North American launch customer for the 787-9, the second variant of the 787 family which entered service in 2014. Keeping the same wingspan as the 787-8, the -9 was lengthened and strengthened with a 20 ft longer fuselage. As of December 2020, 58% of all 787 orders are for the 787-9, with over 550 delivered.
