This United 737 touches down at SFO during a rainstorm, thrust reversers engaged. United currently operates 141 of these 737-800’s. Among the new technologies employed on this next-generation aircraft are the Split Scimitar Winglets, providing fuel savings of 1.6-2.2%. The 737-800 is a stretched version of the 737-700, filling the gap left by the decision to discontinue the McDonnell Douglas MD-80/MD-90 following Boeing’s merger with McDonnell Douglas.
