This time of year is always wonderful. The decorations, candlelight services at church, the holiday spirit, the children expressing their excitement to receive something special from Santa, and most of all… THE MUSIC! For those who know me, you know I love music. There’s a reason why I have a Song of the Week segment on this blog. I admit I have slacked in that area, but today I wanted to give you all your music fix for Blogmas 2016!
Like most people, it is tough to choose just one Christmas song that we adore. I decided to choose four (yes… just four) to share with you all this hump day. I will not put them in any particular order. Below each song, I will share why it means so much to me. Then, in the comments, share which songs you love! Enjoy the music and Happy Holidays!
Rockin’ Around the Christmas Tree by Brenda Lee
Why this song? Well, this song reminds me of my Grandmom. I remember dancing around with her to this song because we had one of those Santas that play music when you click a button. Remember those? I am sure they are wayyyy more advanced now haha. It’s just one of those songs that when you hear it, you are instantly brought back to a memory that makes you happy. Any memory with my Grandmom is the best memory in the world. I miss her dearly and this song never fails to put a smile on my face.
Little Drummer Boy by Pentatonix
Why this song? The Little Drummer Boy is a classic… if you think of Christmas, there’s a good chance this song plays in your head. For me, there are two songs that ARE Christmas, and this is one of them. I like any version of this song, to be honest. The Pentatonix version is a nice modern take that is just lovely. I love the harmony, the beat-boxing, and the diversity of the group. It is amazing.
O Holy Night by Lea Michele
Why this song? I stated above how there are two songs that ARE Christmas. O Holy Night is that second song for me. Lea Michele’s version is one I came across a few years ago while watching Glee. Yup, I am a Gleek. Not ashamed, y’all. I love that show. I knew the song well before that obviously. This version really made me appreciate the lyrics, the meaning, and the true beauty of the song, though. Every single time I hear this song I get chills. It is beautiful.
Mele Kalikimaka by Seth MacFarlane
Why this song? Honestly, the original Mele Kalikimaka became a favorite for me when I was just a kid watching National Lampoon’s Christmas Vacation. Recently I heard Seth MacFarlane’s version and fell deeper in love with this song. I adore Seth MacFarlane and his talent, so it was a no brainer. This song is on repeat. Mele Kalikimaka is one of those Christmas songs that gets you dancing, smiling, and is a Christmas MUST each year. It isn’t a typical Christmas song, which is why I think I like it so much. Enjoy this one because it is so fun.
Happy Listening!
xoxo,
Kristin
