Blogger Interview: Founder of the Experimental Travel Blog – the Travel Experiment

By Djridings @fivethingsnow

We are very grateful to Jon for Jon the founder of The Travel Experiment for this interview.

What is your blog about?

The Travel Experiment is the world first (to my knowledge) travel blog that allows the readers of the blog to make decisions as to where I go and what I do whilst I am at those locations.

What inspired you to start your blog?

I sold my business in January and had a spare bit of cash sitting in my account and felt like whilst I still had the opportunity, why not go and see the world!

I am also a terrible planner, so the idea of allowing readers of the blog to make decisions for me took a huge weight of my shoulders and makes the whole experience much more spontaneous and exciting.

When did you start your blog?

The blog started in May 2015.

How do you motivate yourself to keep the blog up and running?

I enjoy writing firstly and since starting the blog I have received numerous messages of support and have inspired others who were in a similar position to me to get out there and see the world and this spurs me on to keep going.

Ultimately I am just having lots of fun so I don’t need much motivation to be honest!

What do you find the most frustrating aspect of blogging?

It is still early days so nothing is frustrating me as such, other than the sometimes unreliable internet connections that make uploading new content a laborious process.

In the future where do you hope your blog will take you?

I hope to one day make a living out of it but I think the mistake many bloggers make is by thinking short term about monetizing their sites rather than focus on the content they produce. For me, I just enjoy writing and whatever happens , happens!

Have you met anyone interesting/famous on your blogging journey?

I met a guy called Lester Dorman who I talk about in the blog who was the drummer in 70s rock band, “The Pop Mecanics” and I went on a “date” with a ladyboy called “Jossy Berry” who is well known for her online makeup tutorials.

If you could do only ‘one thing’ today then what would it be?

Sit on the beach with a pina colada getting a tan!
