The legendary actor Jack Nicholson turns 80 years old today and over at Realweegiemidget Reviews a Blogathon was put together to help everyone celebrate this together. When I first saw it, I just knew straight way which film I was going to write about and that is As Good As It Gets. One of my all time favorite films and an Oscar Winning performance from Jack!
The brilliance with As Good As It Gets certainly has to be the amount of amazing lines and moments Jack Nicholson is involved in as Melvin Udall! A man who has obsessive compulsive disorder as well as not being able to socially interact with people in a nice manner. With all that he is actually a successful novel writer! He sits at the same table every morning for his breakfast, which is how he meets Carol and he cannot cope if she does not take his order. He clashes with his gay artist neighbor Simon, but everything will work out in the end as he really does grow and change his ways!
Let’s take a look at some of his incredible moments in the film!
I am sure we have all felt like this many times, where you’re struggling and the person you are talking to is not helping in the slightest. He really is trying to work it out with Carol and admit his feelings but he needs help!
I cannot help but find this to be one of the most hilarious lines in the whole film. How not to ever introduce people for the very first time. Just showing that he has no filter when talking to people and in social situations.
He really does try to talk to Carol and not just about himself but he does struggle. Don’t we sometimes just want to say this to someone and just be alone? I am sure I am not the only one thinking that.
Remember you shouldn’t sit in his table, you will be insulted a lot if you decide to do that! He goes one further than this is well to insult those poor people who just decided that they would go out for breakfast!
Trying to resolve what could turn into a very embarrassing moment in a crowded restaurant. This is certainly something that men will try to do when you’re having a moment to stop attention.
He works from home and if you disturb him you are going to feel the wrath! I also love this one just because he openly admits that he is totally crazy. At this point it does not really seem as though he can actually control anything about it.
Eventually he begins to change though for the better and realises that he has to if he really does want the relationship with Carol. I actually think that this would be a pretty amazing thing for a man to say to you, as surely it just means that he wants to be with you and is willing to do anything to ensure that.
Happy 80th Birthday Jack Nicholson!
