Blockchain.com offers free NFT domains for Bitcoin trading

Blockchain.com, an early Bitcoin exchange and wallet provider, announced on Friday that it will give its millions of customers a free NFT domain, a tool that will let them use a human-friendly username like jeff.blockchain instead of the long string of random characters that make up a wallet address.

Unstoppable Domains is running the giveaway. This company is like what domain providers like GoDaddy were to the internet as we know it today.

Earlier this year, Blockchain.com said that it had made a connection that would let its users link Blockchain.com wallets to addresses they got from Unstoppable Domains.

Unstoppable Domains says that it has now given out more than 2 million NFT domains. Most of these domains end in “.crypto,” “.wallet,” or “.nft.” The Blockchain.com giveaway comes with a new suffix called “blockchain,” which the companies are promoting as Web3’s first branded domain name. But it’s likely that most people will think that the.blockchain domain refers to the common word “blockchain” and not the London company.

The company said in a statement, “With Unstoppable Domains, users can get NFT domains that give them full ownership and control over their digital identity.” “They also give users a portable, secure Web3 ID that they own and can use to log in and trade with more than 200 applications, wallets, exchanges, marketplaces, games, and the metaverse.”

As with the other services Unstoppable Domains offers, “.blockchain” domains are made on the Polygon network and recorded on the blockchain. They can also be bought, sold, and traded.

In an interview with Decrypt, Sandy Carter, the senior vice president of Unstoppable Domains, praised the NFT domains as not only an easier way to offer addresses for crypto transactions, but also as an important new tool for establishing digital identities. Carter says that domains are like usernames and passwords for websites like Facebook and Google, but that a single name can be used safely for a number of apps.

Carter said that Unstoppable Domains is working with other companies to offer NFT domains with their names on them. If the idea catches on, it could lead to a time when customers interact with big businesses through NFT domains like “.apple” and “.starbucks.”
