Plot: Detective Sergeant Tom Brant (Statham) who is dispatched to take down a serial killer hell bent on killing off the police force one by one. ‘The Blitz’ manages to slip through the grasp of Tom every time, and with the precious lives of his colleagues diminishing one by one, Tom is led to the question: it we can’t protect our own, then what good are we?
Verdict: Gritty Action Thriller
Story: You see the name Jason Statham you know two things, first you will get plenty of action and secondly you won’t have the most thought provoking storyline. This follows both of these very well, we get a cop killer that is not a mystery, cops with difficult pasts and one cop that takes things into his own law. Sure the action keeps this all covered up nicely and you will want to see how far the killer will go next. It is not the most original story but it will keep you entertained. (7/10)
Actor Reviews
Jason Statham: Brant the no nonsense officer who will ask questions later, doesn’t follow by the rules but isn’t afraid to ask for help if he needs it. Typical Statham here, he kicks ass when he needs to but plans more when it is required. (7/10)
Paddy Considine: Nash who is bought in to cover as acting inspector who teams up with Brant to take down the Blitz. Good performance playing a difficult character in a world where it would sometimes be difficult to be who he was. (7/10)
Aidan Gillen: Weiss wants to be known as the Blitz, he is out to kill cops seemingly for fun. Good performance filled with charisma to go with his psychotic side. (8/10)
Zawe Ashton: Falls the rookie cop who has had problems with substance abuse in her past, trying to find her way in the Police world. Good performance showing how hard it is to be given that second chance. (7/10)
David Morrissey: Dunlop a reporter who is always out to expose the police who also becomes part of the Blitz reporting on his crimes. Good performance that shows how the reporters would rather make name for themselves than stop a killer.(7/10)
Director Review: Elliott Lester – Creates a good action thriller with plenty of morale questions being asked throughout. (7/10)
Action: Most of the action is cut down to a couple of fights and foot races, but this work well for the story. (7/10)
Crime: With the cops being hunted down it makes for the crime put into question for how they can stop without using deadly force. (9/10)
Thriller: We know the killer from early on but we are left to wonder how he will take out the next victim or be stopped. (7/10)
Settings: London makes a strong setting for this film as it clashes cultures and has questions over police brutality. (9/10)
Suggestion: This is one for the fans of the genre you will just need to sit back and enjoy. If you are not an action fan this won’t be your cuppa tea. (Action Fans Watch)
Best Part: Statham introduction is epic.
Worst Part: Never challenges you
Action Scene Of The Film: Final fight slowly builds to a short fight.
Funniest Scene: Posh and Becks the dogs.
Believability: Killers come in all shapes and sizes but this is a bit too much to believe. (2/10)
