Blake Lively joined the many celebrities using their platform to advocate for change after the murder of George Floyd by a white police officer. The actress admitted that she and her husband Ryan Reynolds had not been "made aware of the depth of systemic racism" in the past and vowed to do better in the future. The couple promised to raise their three daughters to be more aware and anti-racist.
"We are committed to raising our children so that they never grow up feeding this foolish model and that they will do their best to never make another being suffer consciously or unconsciously," Lively wrote. "This is the least we can do to honor not only George Floyd, Ahmaud Arbery, Breonna Taylor and Eric Garner, but all the black men and women who were killed when a camera was not on."
Lively announced that she and Reynolds had donated $ 200,000 to the NAACP Legal Defense Fund. She also encouraged others to donate.

We never had to worry about preparing our children for different legal rules or what could happen if we were stopped in the car. We don't know what it's like to live this life day after day. We cannot imagine feeling this kind of fear and anger. We are ashamed that in the past we have allowed ourselves not to know how deeply rooted systemic racism is.
We teach our children differently than the way our parents taught us. We want to learn about the experiences of others and talk to our children about everything, everything ... especially our own bond. We talk about our prejudices, blindness and our own mistakes. We look back and see so many errors that have led us to take a deep look at who we are and who we want to become. They have led us to enormous educational opportunities.
We are committed to raising our children so that they never grow up feeding this foolish model and they will do their best to never inflict pain on another being consciously or unconsciously. It's the least we can do to honor not only George Floyd, Ahmaud Arbery, Breonna Taylor and Eric Garner, but all the black men and women who were killed when a camera was not on.
Last week, we donated $ 200,000 to the NAACP Legal Defense Fund. We are impressed by this organization and its leader, Sherrilyn Ifill. And that's just the beginning. We are also committed to staying informed and voting at each local election. We want to know the positions of candidates for school boards, sheriffs, mayors and councilors. We want to know their positions on justice. But above all, we want to use our privilege and our platform to be an ally. And to help relieve the pain of so many people who feel they lack this great experience.
