Blackout by @emily_barr

By Pamelascott

A tense and chilling Quick Read from the queen of psychological suspense.

You wake up in a strange room, with no idea how you got there.

You are abroad, in a city you have never visited before.

You have no money, no passport, no phone.

And there is no sign of your baby.

What do you do?

I love twisty thrillers, books that lead you in the wrong direction and take you totally by surprise. Blackout is one such book. I loved the way the book opened, quickly establishing that something had gone very wrong in Sophie's life. There are chapters that are flashbacks to the past that are gradually revelled to be key to what's happened now. I thought Sophie had been attacked by someone who'd stolen her baby. Sophie is more resourceful than I could be in her circumstances and hats off to her. The book gradually reveals my assumption about what had happened was way off. Then the book reads me in another direction only to reveal I'd been fooled again. When Sophie finds out the truth I'd no idea what was going on. Blackout is a decent little read.
