❓Recipe FAQs

WHAT ARE COMMON BLACKBERRY SYRUP USES?

Blackberry drink syrup can be added to any drink to jazz it up. Simple syrup is often added to cocktails, but it works great for club soda, iced tea, hot tea, water, lemonade, and many other drinks. Add it to any of your favorite cocktails like a blackberry mojito, spiked blackberry lemonade, blackberry margarita, blackberry whiskey lemonade, or a blackberry Moscow mule.

WHAT DOES BLACKBERRY SYRUP TASTE LIKE?

This simple recipe tastes just like blackberries, with a little extra sweetness added. With limited ingredients, this fresh blackberry simple syrup will mostly taste like sweet blackberries in liquid form.

HOW TO STORE HOMEMADE BLACKBERRY SYRUP?

This syrup should be stored in the refrigerator in an airtight container. A glass jar or any container with a tight-fitting lid will work.
You can also freeze simple syrup to preserve it for longer! I recommend freezing it in ice cube trays that are wrapped and covered. Then, when you want to use some of the syrup, you can just defrost individual portions as needed! To defrost, just thaw in the fridge overnight, and warm gently in the microwave or on the stovetop.

HOW LONG DOES SIMPLE SYRUP WITH FRUIT LAST?

If stored properly, berry simple syrup can last for up to a month in the refrigerator, or up to 3-4 months in the freezer.

WHAT TO ADD TO SIMPLE SYRUP TO PRESERVE IT?

Your simple blackberry syrup will last up to a month if stored correctly. To extend its shelf life even further, I recommend either freezing it, or trying to add a neutral flavored liquor to the syrup to extend its shelf life.
Food companies will often use sodium benzoate and citric acid to preserve syrups and other food products, but I don't recommend that method for the home cook!

HOW TO SERVE BLACKBERRY FLAVOR SYRUP?

Simply remove your homemade syrup from the refrigerator and add it to any recipe. If adding to a tea, lemonade or soda, you can simply mix the fruit syrup into your glass. If adding to a cocktail, you may want to use a cocktail shaker. You can also drizzle on top of pancakes, ice cream and more.

💭 Expert Tips

  • Fresh blackberries or frozen berries can be used. You can even pick your own during blackberry season!
  • Don't defrost frozen berries: If you are using frozen berries, you don't need to defrost them before using.
  • Easily double or even tripe this recipe. You can even divide into jars and give as gifts!
