Black Dynamite is Dynamite!

Three weeks ago Black Dynamite premiered on Cartoon Network’s Adult Swim at 11:30pm EST. The animated television show is a spin-off of Black Dynamite a 2009 film. Scott Sanders, Michael Jai White, and Byron Minns wrote the film. Scott Sanders also directed Black Dynamite. The animated show has the entire cast from the movie doing the voices. Carl Jones and Brian Ash write the show. Black Dynamite takes us back to the 1970s, a time of blaxploitation and both spoofs and pays homage to it.

The show stars Black Dynamite, a handsome ladies man, an ex-CIA agent, who runs a whorephenage (Yes, that’s correct whores and orphans under the same roof) and is also a detective. The team of Cream Corn, Honey Bee, and Bullhorn accompanies Black Dynamite on his adventures. Bullhorn is also the show’s narrator.

Since seeing the first episode I have fallen in love with the show. I enjoy the references to long-lost terms like the Man and to pop culture references to Michael Jackson and Richard Pryor. I find the show to be a very enjoyable experience. Black Dynamite it is not only action packed but also hilarious. I haven’t seen a show this paradoxical since Adult Swim’s The Boondocks.

I recommend this show to anyone who has fond memories of the blaxploitation days. Someone who doesn’t mind foul language and whores put with orphans (I can’t get over that). For me, Black Dynamite is a fresh TV show and is worth watching. You can watch it every Sunday on Cartoon Network’s Adult Swim at 11:30pm EST.
