Since Hiro is also getting ready to add support for Bitcoin NFTs to its wallet, Ordinals’ place in blockchain history seems to be set.
Xverse, which likes to call itself a “Bitcoin wallet for Web3,” just added support for Ordinals, a new protocol that allows users to inscribe NFTs onto the Bitcoin blockchain.
The wallet team tweeted on Wednesday: Today, we are launching first class support for Ordinals.
The startup said that inscribing NFTs via its software involves “no need to run a node, complex software, or anything else,” only some Bitcoin to pay a transaction fee, which can be bought directly through the app.
Gamma.io, a Bitcoin NFT marketplace that released out “no-code ordinal inscriptions” last week, is used for inscriptions. About 5% of Bitcoin inscriptions have been created using Gamma’s tool, according to Xverse.
After a user uploads an image and sends a transaction to the Ordinals address they were given, they can find their inscriptions in their Xverse NFT collection 20 to 30 minutes later. The inscriptions will be in the blockchain forever.
This happened just one day after Hiro, another Web3 wallet focused on Bitcoin, added inscriptions to its testnet. Both wallets interact with Stacks, a “layer 1.5” blockchain with its own NFT economy and Bitcoin transactions.
Xverse also enable Bitcoin users to interact with Stacks, with plans to enable instant payments over the lightning network.
Bitcoin has logged its 100,000th Ordinals transaction, continuing a trend of exponential growth. Given that NFTs were not envisioned by Bitcoin’s original developers, their existence has inevitably created controversy, with many people uncertain as to whether they will harm or benefit the network.
Tuesday, the co-creator of Stacks, Muneeb Ali, stated that the new protocol marks a “new chapter in Bitcoin history.” The next day, he said that Xverse’s Bitcoin wallet offers the “easiest ramp to ordinals.”
The founder and CEO of Xverse wallet (also known as Secret Key Labs), Ken Liao, said that users will soon be allowed to send their ordinal from the wallet. Liao used to work as an engineer at Stacks.
