Bill Cobbs, ‘Night at the Museum’ Actor, Dies at 90

Actor Bill Cobbs, known for his roles in films like Air Bud and Night at the Museum, passed away at the age of 90. His brother, Thomas G. Cobbs, confirmed that Bill died on Tuesday, June 25 at his home in Riverside, California. The cause of death was natural, as confirmed by Bill’s publicist. Thomas Cobbs remembered his brother as a cherished family member and friend, describing him as a beloved partner, big brother, uncle, surrogate parent, godfather, and friend.

Thomas Cobbs also shared that Bill had recently celebrated his 90th birthday surrounded by loved ones and expressed comfort in knowing that Bill had found peace and eternal rest. He asked for prayers and support during this difficult time.

Bill Cobbs made his acting debut in 1974 with a minor role in the American crime drama film, The Taking of Pelham One Two Three. Throughout his career, he appeared in numerous acclaimed films, including The Hudsucker Proxy, The Bodyguard, The Color of Money, Demolition Man, Air Bud, and Night at the Museum.

Reflecting on his debut film in a 2023 interview, Cobbs fondly recalled the anticipation among friends and neighbors for his appearance. He portrayed a policeman in a subway scene, delivering the memorable line, “Hey, man. What’s goin’ on?”

Born Wilbert Francisco Cobbs on June 16, 1934, in Cleveland, Ohio, United States, Bill Cobbs used his stage name throughout his career. After serving in the US Air Force and operating a car repair shop, he ventured into acting in 1969 after being offered a role in a theatrical production by a customer at his shop.

In a 2003 interview, Cobbs discussed the essence of being an artist, emphasizing the importance of giving and viewing art as a form of prayer. He highlighted how artists respond to their surroundings and the impact of experiences on their mental and spiritual state.
