Big Tunes: The Rock & Alternative Running Playlist

By Mountain Publishing @mountainpublish

As any runner will tell you, sometimes you just need that extra little bit of motivation to get you through to the end of your run. We’ve put together some of the best rock & alternative tunes that will get you pumped, get you angry, and get you looking forward to your next run!

Muse – Survival

The song made famous by the 2012 London Olympics has some suitably epic, sports-themed lyrics. With a slow build-up and a big finish, it makes an ideal first song on your playlist to ease you into your run!

Fatboy Slim – Ya Mamma

A high-energy song that’s not too aggressive but ideal for getting you warmed up and ready for more!

The Black Keys – Lonely Boy

Another big, energetic song with a huge riff that’s guaranteed to get the blood flowing.

Beastie Boys – Sabotage

If this 1994 classic doesn’t do it for you, give the Cancer Bats cover a try! (both versions below)

Kasabian – Shoot the Runner

A good mid-run song, Kasabian’s 2006 classic has just the right tempo and sturdy bass line to keep you chugging along.

N.E.R.D – Rockstar (Jason Nevins Remix)

When Pharrell Williams isn’t busy making songs for Despicable Me, he’s putting out amazing tunes like this!

Royal Blood – Ten Tonne Skeleton

A beast of a song from Royal Blood’s cracking debut album.

LL Cool J – Mama Said Knock You Out

What workout or running playlist would be complete without this 1995 classic!

Rage Against The Machine – Guerrilla Radio

Honestly we could have picked just about any RATM song, but we settled on Guerrilla Radio. Perfect for giving you a boost near the end of your run, when you’re hurting and getting tempted to quit!

Limp Bizkit – Break Stuff

And finally, say what you want about the early 2000s rap-metal group, they know how to make a good angry song! Save this track for near the end of your run when you really need a boost.
