Beyonce Lip-synced “The Star Spangled Banner” at Inauguration Ceremony

Kelly Clarkson and BeyonceBeyonce Knowles sang the national anthem at President Obama’s 2nd inauguration ceremony.  Beyonce, is scheduled to sing at this year’s Super bowl halftime show, sang the song well.  The only problem is that she actually didn’t really sing the song at all.  The singer decided in the last-minute to use a pre-recorded track.  Ceremony officials say it’s not uncommon for singers to pre-record their tracks because of the potential weather and acoustic problems outside.

Kelly Clarkson sang “My Country ‘Tis of Thee.”  Clarkson however sang the song live.

I think they both did well.  I think Beyonce has sung the song better in the past.  She sometimes tries to do too much.  Clarkson, who happens to be my favorite female artist, sang the song well.

Many have been discussing if it matters that Beyonce lip-synced at the inauguration.  I don’t think there is a problem.  The U.S. Marine Corp Band, who oversees the ceremony, said this oftentimes happens.  Beyonce isn’t known for lip-syncing.  It’s not like they asked Britney Spears to sing the anthem and then were surprised she lip-synced.

Here’s Beyonce’s rendition of the national anthem:

Here’s Kelly’s performance of the “My Country ‘Tis of Thee:”

What do you think?

Does it even matter?
