Beyonce Presents Colin Kaepernick With Legacy Award
Colin Kaepernick was formally honored by none other than the Queen Bey herself at the Sports Illustrated Awards on Tuesday evening.
The R&B icon presented the activist athlete with the Muhammad Ali Legacy award during the ceremony, which will be televised this upcoming Friday.
Show host Trevor Noah shocked the crowd by bringing out Beyonce as a surprise presenter. Bey said that she was “proud and humbled” to present the award to Colin for his philanthropic endeavors and taking a stand for what he believes in. Via ESPN:
“Colin took action with no fear of consequence or repercussion, only hope to change the world for the better. To change perception, to change the way we treat each other, especially people of color.”
Colin said he can only hope he’s walking in the large footsteps Ali left behind for the world to follow, and that “with or without the NFL’s platform, [he] will continue to work for the people.”
Congrats, Colin! Someone get this man a slot on a team already…
