Opposition Leader Sajith Premadasa yesterday said that student population numbering over 4.3 million will receive a nutritious meal during the school time under a SJB government.
Premadasa was addressing a gathering after gifting a bus to the Killinochchi Central College yesterday under the Sakwala programme. Forty five buses have been given away for the benefit of public under this programme.
He said that the present government has degenerated to such a low level to inspect the meals of poor schoolchildren as part of what it termed drug eradication campaign instead of empowering these students with cutting edge technologies such as Information Technology and Artificial Intelligence.
“What they have found from the school bags of poor schoolchildren were empty meals boxes only”, Premadasa added.
He said that the government has become a laughing stock among the public by checking the bags of schoolchildren in search of drugs while those involved in smuggling them into country are at large.
