A Few Favourite Speech Photos
If you are looking for some of the best York documentary photography – then wedding speeches are a great place to start.
Some of our favorite photographs of the wedding day are taken during the speeches. Whether it is a best man telling a deeply embarrassing story of the groom’s childhood, or tears and hugs between a father and a bride, there’s just something about putting all that emotion into words that creates the most amazing moments.
As documentary wedding photographers, we love nothing better than to capture all those unfiltered emotions and expressions. The best York documentary photography happens when we are right there and ready for whatever the moment will bring. To ensure that we never miss a thing, Jaye and I (Matt) always divide out what we concentrate on photographing. At all times, one of us is covering just the top table while the other photographs the guests. This way, when the best man passes around those naked photographs of the groom – we not only get the look of horror on the groom’s face but also the expression from his new mother in law (this actually happened – see photo 7)!
As documentary wedding photographers, we often get quite a unique perspective on the speeches. Some of my favorite speech moments are taken from a distance or from unusual angles. I love how in photo 5, Bee (our awesome associate) has got in close and crouched so that she is on an eye level with the guests. Even though I wasn’t at this wedding, when I look at this photo I’m in the action and I can feel the loved-up atmosphere from the couples in the room.
When someone is giving a speech it is normal for everyone to concentrate on the speaker. As documentary wedding photographers, we know to look beyond the person speaking as some of the best photographs are often of the people observing. We are always on the lookout and I particularly love when we capture something fantastic that the couple may not even be aware happened until they later look through their wedding photos. Yes, I do imagine our couples looking at their wedding photos! Jaye captured an awesome documentary moment like this in photo 9. Although the main ‘action’ is happening with the dad as he places his hand on the bride’s (his daughter’s) head, I love that Jaye chose to instead focus on what is happening with mom and the tender look on her face as she looks on at her daughter on her special day.
Even after many years as wedding photographers, we are still constantly moved by the emotional wedding speeches we hear and the inspiring, awesome moments that make these photos some of the best York documentary photography.
