At the south-western corner of the park is a Martyr’s Tomb (Shaheed Minar), dedicated to the 11 martyrs who were killed by the police in February 1961 while fighting against the Assam government to protect their Bengali language. Fairs and exhibitions are organized in the park premises, the most famous of which is the Gandhi Fair, held every year in January, in which a large number of artisans display their work. Maniharan Tunnel, located near Bhuvan Hill, has a mythological past associated with it. Since the tunnel was built during the time of Lord Krishna and was used by him, it is referenced in the epic Mahabharata. Situated on the top of Bhuvan hill, Bhuban Mahadev Temple is dedicated to Lord Shiva. Built by the Kachari king, the temple houses the idol of Goddess Parvati along with Lord Shiva. Local people address Lord Shiva as Bhuban Baba, from where the hill and the temple get their name. According to beliefs, Lord Shiva came to kill demons in Treta period and settled on this hill and from that day this hill came to be known as Bhuban Hill.
