Everyone should see the Festival of Lights (Fête des Lumières) in Lyon, France at least once in their lives! In fact, it was the most incredible modern man-made thing I saw in all of 2012!
With 70 light installations it’s impossible to see everything in one night, so I went back. And I still didn’t see everything. I want to go again next year! My recommendation? Go at least three times!
The first night I went I determined that the Cathedrale Saint-Jean shown in Loving the Festival of Lights in Lyon was my favorite. Now? I’m not so sure, even thought it was definitely still one of the highlights for me. I also loved the buildings across the river with their reflecting lights shimmering the river, while constantly changing:
