Best of 21st Amendment Gastrobar

By Rohit Dassani

21st Amendment is a new gastrobar located in Indiranagar, Bangalore. The name has been kept from the American constitutional amendment banning the prohibition on alcohol. The place served fusion dishes with quirky names right from Indian to Chinese as well as continental dishes. The place is spread over two parts with large open windows. The interior is colorful with dim lights all around. The seating comprises of highchairs, benches and sofas in one side.

Firstly, we tried some of the cocktails here like the Botanical Garden and the Jungle Bird. The Botinical Garden is made with botanical tea herb, flavored with rum and still water is poured over it. The drink is topped with edible flower and rosemary. It was indeed very smooth with subtle taste. The Jungle Bird is made with dark rum and neem leaves mixed with jaggery and fresh pineapple milk. The flavors were spot on especially the combination of dark rum with jaggery and pineapple.

The food at 21st Amendment comprises of fusion flavors. We tried the De-oxidized Watermelon Feta Salad which has watermelon roundels topped with Feta cheese and persil lade Raspberry vinaigrette. The use of blue and feta cheese was out of the world. The salad was outstanding in taste. Next, we had the USA, a fusion salad with American Mushroom and grilled vegetables with crisp lettuces. The salad used in this salad combined everything very well. The Crème of Mushroom Soup comprises of many parts here. The Mushroom puree is served separately along mushrooms with burnt garlic.

For the appetizers we tried their Abati Hongoles – a stuffed cheese Mushrooms tart. The tart was made with oats flour and the texture was very buttery. The tarts were delicious and we finished them in a few minutes. The Bukhara E Sumeri Jinituia or Dahi kebab made with hung curd and light rose petal powder. The kebab were milky and melted in the mouth. Next, came the Paneer Diriya E Sindh or paneer tikka stuffed with khova along with other condiments. The dish is served with gold dust which is spectacular to look at. These were indeed some of the best Paneer tikka’s ever. The paneer was very soft and the layer of khova and dry fruit took this dish to a new level.

For the main course we tried their Oats Crusted Veg Latam Burger. This Moroccan spiced Veg oats crusted burger is served with tomato salsa. The patty was delicious, and the burger was on the heathier side. The Chilli Paneer Pizza was made with vegetables like onion, capsicum, olives and large chilli paneer cubes. The pizza was amazing in taste. We also tried the house made biryani. The biryani is served with raita and had plenty of veggies. The Biryani was mild in taste and went really well with the raita.

For the desserts we tried the 007 & ½ Local Bond, this fusion dessert is made with Chocolate Brownie and Gajar Halwa Cigars. Didn’t like the combination of both these dishes, but once separated they were both really good. Lastly, we had the Bulgarian Coconut Souffle made with tender coconut, coconut water and coconut milk. The taste of the dessert was dense as expected from a souffle. The sugar was just perfect.

Overall, 21st Amendment is a quirky place with fusion dishes and great value for money.
