How to unlock the M4 in MW2?
The good news is that the M4 is unlocked from the start in Modern Warfare 2, so you don’t need to do anything to get the assault rifle.
Having said that, the ability to create your own loadout and use Gunsmith 2.0 is only available at level 4, so you still need to do a few things before you start playing with different builds.

First, it’s important to start the loadout with the M4 receiver and make sure the weapon we’re building is a classic Modern Warfare 2 assault rifle, not an M16 or LMG. We then used an Echoline GS-X suppressor to remove some of the weapon’s tricky recoil.
The Tempus Hightower 20″ barrel is key to this build as it simultaneously increases projectile speed, range, hip firing accuracy and recoil control, making the M4 extremely powerful in almost any situation. Modern Warfare 2’s minimap conjures up a lot of melee combat, so opting for the Demo Fade Pro Stock and Phantom Grip will increase movement and ADS speed to help you hit enemies as you charge through the arena.

Bonuses unlock mid-game, which is where we recommend quick hands. The M4’s reload rate is a bit slow in Modern Warfare 2, which can prove costly on smaller maps, so speeding up the process is very welcome.
Then Ghost is your go-to tool for the ultimate advantage, keeping you away from drones and other radars so you can effectively sneak around the map.
Gear-wise, the Semtex can deal massive damage, while the Stun Grenade can disorient enemies before they charge.
