A gamer knows that there is more to a gaming laptop than just speed. You can equip a gaming laptop with the best graphics card, the fastest and most colorful display, a multi-million dollar processor, tons of fast solid-state storage for your games, and a solid hard drive for secondary storage. - and it can still come up short. These powerful components can overheat at the worst or create instabilities that affect your gaming performance. Or maybe you don't want to always use one external keyboard, but the built-in version feels like mashed potatoes under your WASD keys.
The good news is that not all games are bottlenecked by dual cores or a last-gen GTX. Therefore this cannot be taken for granted Bust your budget Paying for a new laptop (although budget gaming can be tricky if you don't shop carefully).

With almost any gaming laptop, no matter how fast or slow, that's the tradeoff you make Battery lifeThis can only take two hours if you are using your gaming rig non-stop. You can't play even the most complex games - GPU or CPU intensive - on battery power. Processors tend to throttle and screens get darker during hardcore gaming sessions. A laptop that feels nimble to the touch when plugged in will therefore run on battery power, turning your gaming experience into a battle of frustration.

But components are important. The fastest graphics card currently available in a laptop is the Nvidia GeForce RTX 2080 Super, followed by the RTX 2080 Super Max-Q. The Max-Q versions run at slower frequencies than their full-size siblings. This is to keep noise and heat down and incorporate them into thinner designs. RTX models also accelerate raytrace rendering and offer intelligent upscaling (also known as DLSS) if explicitly supported. When your favorite games aren't using it, the lower-priced Nvidia GTX 1660 Ti includes Turing, the latest generation of Nvidia technology, without the added cost of RT cores. However, it is not synonymous with the last generation Nvidia GTX 1080.
The problem with the Max-Q, however, is that you'll have to reboot to toggle between a dedicated GPU mode and the original Optimus mode, which uses the GPU just to speed up without actually drawing the screen. That said, you can't take advantage of the Max-Q's ultra-fast refresh rates with Optimus. So why not leave it in GPU mode all the time? Because in games that balance CPU and GPU usage, you often get worse CPU performance and even lower graphics performance instead of taking full advantage of the GPU.
Nvidia has introduced the next generation of its Max-Q architecture that supports Advanced Optimus. It's smarter because built-in and discrete graphics sharing (rather than switching) brings the pipeline to the display, so no reboot is required. However, Advanced Optimus needs fundamental system design changes so that laptops that support Advanced Optimus are not exactly abundant, although this should be the case by the next update cycle - early 2021.
AMD's newest laptop GPUs, the Radeon RX 5700M, 5600M and 5500Mdo not quite reach the level of the fastest Nvidia RTX models, but can hold their own against the mobile entry-level models RTX 2060 and 2070. The year 2020 Dell G5 15 SE includes the Radeon RX 5600M. AMD recently released its new version Generation of desktop GPUs of the RX 6800 seriesand once they hit the phone they should be able to compete with the RTX 2070 Super and above. Of course, who knows when they will Nvidia RTX 3000 The series goes mobile and changes the game again.

More cores can help when choosing a CPU, although most games don't use more than four right now. This is in part Intel's rationalization for the continued reliance on its old 14 nanometer architecture for the 10th generation high performance (H-series) Processors. This enables the company to increase single-core clock frequencies compared to the gains it would make from moving to a smaller process technology such as Ice lakethat supports more cores with lower power consumption. But Intel has started to launch its 11th generation Rocket Lake S generation for Nongaming laptops, an H series with Intel's newer, more powerful Xe discrete graphics (beyond the low-end Xe Max)should be on the horizon.
AMD H-series processors from the Ryzen 4000 series, including a new Core i9 mobile competitor, the Ryzen 9 4900HS with eight cores, 16 threads. We tested it in the new one Asus ROG Zephyrus 14 and it flies on both multi and single core. The Origin PC Eon15-X can also be equipped with a Ryzen 9 3900 desktop processor, a 12-core beast that is great for CPU-intensive software but is not really hardcore gaming aside from complex Sims. AMD has just started shipping Ryzen 5000 Series processors, so we can expect mobile versions to be announced as early as January 2021 if the company sticks to its tradition.

And then there are the screens. Everyone upgrades their flagship 1080p configurations to 360 Hz, but many gamers don't need them: a maximum of 240 Hz should be fine for the few times you can get frame rates above 240 fps. Even 144Hz is fine for many people, but artifacts like tearing caused by the screen refresh rate no longer syncing with the frame rate depend as much on your games as it does on your laptop brand and hardware.

We're also seeing a lot more 120Hz 4K screens in the flagship models, in both 17- and 15-inch sizes. We tested the 17-inch in the Razer Blade Pro 17 and the 15-inch in the Razer Blade Pro 17 Asus StudioBook One Laptop, and they are very, very nice. While OLED screens seemed like the best ever to build a beautiful gaming rig - OLED has great colors and contrasts with fast response times - they're still limited to 4K / 60Hz on laptops, as is the upcoming 14-inch 1440p display from Asus offer for the G14. So for 4K, the 120 Hz screen looks more popular.

If you want the best, go big. Yes, there are faster 17-inchers, but I draw the line with two huge power stones. (You don't care? Check out the Gigabyte Aorus 17X, Alienware Area-51m, and other mammoth systems.) The Blade Pro is fast, but doesn't sacrifice its slim figure.

You can add some custom graphics to make the generic chassis a little more stylish, but it's the abundance of components that make this best gaming laptop an attractive purchase for a gaming beast - if not a cheap one. Since the Eon17-X is basically a desktop in the casing of a laptop, this is the case Really difficult compared to the others on this list. That said, it's a super powerful gaming laptop too.
