Wow. That wasn’t what I expected. The reunion of Dick and Bruce… I thought this was going bring in a carefree humor aspect to the book. Especially after how heavy many of these issues have been. Boy was I wrong. This may have been one of the heaviest issues post-death yet. I actually believe this should have been called Batman and Alfred.
What an insanely touching and devastating end this issue had. The issues since Damian’s death had been so focused on Bruce’s grief and on Alfred trying to help him out of it that Alfred’s guilt and grief have been largely forgotten and ignored.
Damian was in many ways Alfred’s grandson. Alfred allowed Damien out the night he died. His regret is deep and real. To see what he feels he could have done to change the outcome was so powerful. The death of Damian is just devastating no matter who’s perspective you take. He was Bruce’s one biological relative. He was robin. He was a child.
These issues following his death have been so powerful and well done. It’s going to be hard to see a new robin step in, if thy decide to go that route. Overall great issue and art.
