Best Beaches on the Amalfi Coast

Posted on the 11 April 2019 by Ssti @sightseeingtou2

When one imagines what the Amalfi Coast looks like, thoughts of crystal blue waters and gorgeous coastal towns dance across your mind. From the dramatic shoreline that falls hundreds of feet down from rugged cliffs you’ll find beaches that are populated with glitzy celebs and carefree locals, as well as other quieter hidden gems in smaller towns on the coast that are less frequented but also well worth the trip. What to keep in mind with beaches on the Amalfi Coast is that most of them are lined with pebbles instead of sand, so get to the beach early, rent out a sun umbrella (or bring your own), and spend as much of your time in the magical color changing waters.

Marina Grande- Positano

Where else in the world can you go outside of Hollywood to spot celebrities? The Marina Grande in Positano is endearingly referred to as the Hollywood beach due to the sheer number of celebrity sightings that occur there. This beach is a popular destination for both locals and foreigners alike and includes private areas where you can rent out sun loungers and umbrellas, or the free part of the beach if you’re just interested in spending your time swimming in the azure waters. Easily located by its rows upon rows of vibrant orange, blue and yellow beach umbrellas, the beach spans a distance of 300 metres and is sectioned off by a middle section that is the free beach area, bordered on either side by private beach clubs, a fancy restaurant and the iconic Music on the Rocks discotheque.

Gavitella Beach- Praiano

This quaint beach earns a place as one of the best beaches on the Amalfi Coast because of its west-facing positioning that leaves it sun-kissed until sunset. This beach is situated in the old town and requires you to walk down a staircase to reach the shoreline. Its central position means that you are close to the Marina di Praia, a restaurant and even a natural swimming pool that has been built into the entrance of a grotto. If you’re hoping for a lazy beach day surrounded by all the facilities you need, this isolated Mediterranean beach is yours for the day.

Spiaggia di Marina Grande- Amalfi

This grand beach in Amalfi offers picture perfect views from every angle and is the home base for visiting other nearby islands and beaches which can be done by renting a private boat or taking a small water taxi. The beach is in a prime location as it is footsteps away from bars, restaurants, and private beach clubs. It is amongst the most popular and busiest beach due to its size and can be easily reached by public transport. The Marina Grande in Amalfi is one of the region’s best beaches as it holds the title of being the largest on the entire coastline. To fully appreciate the beauty of the turquoise waters, head here early in the morning as it does have the tendency to get crowded and the sun sets quite early on the Amalfi Coast, so you want to be soaking up as many sun rays as possible for your trip to this pristine and pebbly beach!
