Best 12 Month Electricity Plan in Dallas, TX

The variety of electricity rates in the Dallas area can vary by nearly $0.15 depending on your usage. You can see a quick summary of some these rates in this article, Rate of the Week: Dallas.

In this article we will take a look at three plans that we have found that are best at various usage rates.

Lowest Electricity Rates in Dallas

As the chart above shows, the decision on the cheapest light companies will be based on your usage.

Apartments If you live in an apartment, your electric usage is likely to be relatively low. If you use about 500 kw/h, the
Green Energy 12
plan is the best rate. This will give you the best rates of the 12-month plans . This plan also offers the benefit that this plan offers 100% renewable energy. If going green is important to you, this is an ideal plan.

Small Homes Small homes tend to use about 1000 kw/h. In this case, the Gexa Choice 1500 plan falls right in the middle between apartments and large homes. The $0.054 rate is by far the lowest rates on the chart.

Large Homes In larger homes with higher electricity usages, the Champ Saver 12 will be the best deal. They offer the biggest discount for significant usage. While it’s only 3/10ths of a cent, it will add up quickly over the course of a hot summer.

Deciding the best plan for your home will require looking at your average energy usage over the last 12 months and choosing the plan that fits your usages best.

Other Electricity Rate Factors in Dallas

Whereas some plans don’t charge an early termination fee, all three of these plans require $150 fee if you cancel before your 12 months is up. This might be a factor if there is a chance that you might move or if you are the type of person who likes to shop around every 6 months for the best rates.

Minimum Usage Fees

There are no minimum usage fees on any of these plans, so that’s not a factor in your calculations.

Usage Credits

Each plan offers credits when your usage goes over a certain level. These credits are usually reflected in the kWh price chart as well.

Gexa offers a $60.00 usage credit for usage between 1,000 kWh and 2,000 kWh. There are no usage credits outside of this range.

Both the Green Energy and Champ Saver plans are offered by Champion Energy. Champion doesn’t offer any usage credits at any level.

All Things Considered

As you can see from the information above, the final decision as to which plan is cheapest is based on your usage. Once you’ve calculated your usage, you can find the plan with the lowest Dallas electricity rates.

Apartments – The Green Energy 12 plan comes in as the best plan for homes with a usage under 500 kWh. This plan has the added bonus of being 100% renewable.
Smaller homes – Gexa 1500 is a great plan, but be careful not to exceed 2,000 kWh. The plan offers a significant usage credit between 1,000 kWh and 2,000 kWh.
Larger homes – Champ Saver 12 is perfect for larger homes with usage over 2,000 kWh. This plan was specifically designed for larger, higher usage homes.

Then the only significant decision is: Are you reasonably sure that you will want to stay with a plan for 12 months? If so, then the cancellation fee is not a consideration. Otherwise, factor that into the potential costs.
