Ben Kweller has shared new song ‘Starz’ and announced details of Bright and Early – a DIY subscription service for his fans all over the world. Plans range from $3 per month to $40 per month and include everything from discounts on merchandise to private video chats and guestlist spots at Ben’s concerts. Every plan also gives users unlimited streams and downloads of Ben’s extensive catalog (including rarities).
‘Starz’ is an unashamedly romantic ode to the personal connections we make (Ben says it’s about ‘That time when you fall in love and the sky explodes and you naturally quarantine yourself with the one you love and the world peels away around you’) that is filled with synths, Bruce Hornsby-esque guitar hooks and heartfelt lyrics about the power of love: ‘I can’t find my words when the lights go out I see stars brighter than the Milky Way’
Ben starts the anthem-in-waiting by declaring: ‘I wanna dance with you all night, I wanna hold on to you tight… Forever. We could just go for a walk, I’m happy just to hear you talk forever’ before opening up about how he wants ‘love that’s gonna shine’. A big rock breakdown follows with call-and-response ‘woahs’ and impassioned shouts of ‘You are the new constellation I got punched in the face from’.
