Hahaha, I’m sorry, ahem… It’s official, Ben Affleck will play Bruce Wayne/Batman in Zack Snyder’s still untitled Batman vs. Superman.
The studio made the announcement a few hours ago. Affleck’s name wasn’t among the rumored names despite his high profile, so the studio was able to keep this hidden.
Greg Silverman, Warner Bros.’ president of creative development and worldwide production, says: “We knew we needed an extraordinary actor to take on one of DC Comics’ most enduringly popular superheroes, and Ben Affleck certainly fits that bill, and then some. His outstanding career is a testament to his talent, and we know he and Zack will bring new dimension to the duality of this character.”
Ben is an extraordinary DIRECTOR, as an actor, not really.
And Snyder adds:
“Ben provides an interesting counterbalance to Henry’s Superman. He has the acting chops to create a layered portrayal of a man who is older and wiser than Clark Kent and bears the scars of a seasoned crime fighter, but retain the charm that the world sees in billionaire Bruce Wayne. I can’t wait to work with him.”
One wonders why superheroes are being recycled among a select few. Human Torch becomes Captain America, Deadpool becomes Green Lantern…
Warners has slated the film for release on July 17th 2015.
