Bell UH-1H Iroquois

@ Ho Chi Minh City, Vietnam

August 2024

A veteran Huey on outdoor display on the roof of the Reunification Palace in Ho Chi Minh City (formerly Saigon), Vietnam. This example wears the markings of the personal helicopter of former South Vietnam President Nguyen Van Thieu.  Hueys like this one were employed during Operation Frequent Wind, the helicopter evacuation of US personnel and at-risk Vietnamese during the final days of the fall of Saigon. Originally delivered to the US Army in 1970, and later transferred to the South Vietnam Air Force.  First flown in 1956, more than 16,000 variants of this classic helicopter were produced.
