A MV-22 Osprey hovers during their flight demonstration during the 2025 Kaneohe Bay Airshow. Note the water vapor forming at the proprotor tips, condensing out of the air due to rapid changes in pressure and temperature. The Osprey’s large proprotors spin at very high speeds, especially in helicopter mode. This generates extremely strong tip vortices, making the vapor trails highly visible in humid conditions. The MV-22 is primarily operated by the United States Marine Corps, where it serves as a medium-lift assault support aircraft capable of transporting 24 combat-equipped troops. First flown in 1989, the Osprey entered service with the USMC in 2007 and the USAF in 2009.
