July 2024

Caught this San Diego-based (VRM-30 “Titans”) USMC Osprey as it flew over my house headed south on the flight home.  The Titans are the U. S. Navy’s first CMV-22B squadron, established as part of the Navy’s transition from the C-2A Greyhound for the carrier onboard delivery role. The U.S. Navy began using the CMV-22B for carrier onboard delivery duties in 2021, 44 have been ordered. The CMV-22’s speed and range enable personnel and cargo to be transported faster and farther than is possible with legacy helicopters. First flown in 1989, the Osprey entered service with the USMC in 2007 and the USAF in 2009.
