Beginning a New Commissioned Painting

By Abstractartbylt @artbylt

I started work on a new commissioned painting in the style of an older painting of mine in a different size and different colors.  It's going to be a challenge because the painting is very complex, painted in many layers, and I have no memory of how I originally did it.

I have printed out a copy of the original painting and I'm using that as a reference, but this new painting will be quite different.  One thing I've learned after painting a number of commissions, is that it's more important to make the new painting work in and of itself than to worry about how closely you match the original.

Here's the original painting:

My Little Buttercup, 40" x 40" acrylic on canvas.

To begin the commission, I first painted a background, blending shades of blue, green and magenta with a pale blue wash:

Canvas157500
  Canvas #157, 40" x 60" acrylic on canvas.

Not much of this background will remain by the time I'm finished.
