Beer Review – Terrapin Beer Company Hopsecutioner IPA

Beer Review – Terrapin Beer Company Hopsecutioner IPA As a part of a mixed six, I picked up a bottle of the Hopsecutioner IPA from the Terrapin Beer Company. I have had the beer on tap before but have never gotten around to a review (we have reviewed the Rye Squared, the Hop Karma IPA, formerly India Style Brown Ale and the Monk’s Revenge). So, I am familiar with the beer and the brand. I have found that the folks at Terrapin roll out a strong product line with offerings that are well balanced and quite varied and are definitely worth a try. The Hopsecutioner is no exception as it earns its name by using six different types of hops while still remaining an aggressive well balanced beer.

Here is what Terrapin has to say about this beer:

Hear ye, hear ye … All hopheads shall herewith rejoice! Terrapin has recruited ye olde Hopsecutioner to execute the exact hop profile for this killer IPA. You may loses your head over this one.

I found the Hopsecutioner to have the following characteristics…

  • Appearance: Clear, orange amber with very little foam or lacing.
  • Aroma: Hops, pine, apricot and citrus.
  • Taste: Mild, lightly carbonated, well balanced with a slightly bitter, smooth finish.
  • ABV: 7.3%

The Hopsecutioner was a little misleading in that the aroma would have suggested a very hoppy and most likely bitter beer. Surprisingly, the actual taste was well balanced and the flavors were quite muted.  If you are looking for a hoppier beer that could be a session beer, the Hopsecutioner is certainly worth a try.
