 Beer Review – Spaten Oktoberfest

This is the second to last of my Oktoberfest reviews and as it is now February, I have learned that next year, I either need to drink a lot less Oktoberfests or crank out the reviews. In any event, this is a review of the Spaten Oktoberfest. After sampling a bunch of domestic Oktoberfests and pumpkin ales, I opted for a true Oktoberfest. Spaten’s first brewed its Oktoberfest Beer in 1872 just for the Oktoberfest. So, Spaten bills its Oktoberfest as the world’s first Oktoberfest beer.

Here is what Spaten has to say about their Oktoberfest:

Spaten Oktoberfest Beer is amber in color. This medium bodied beer has achieved its impeccable taste by balancing the roasted malt flavor with the perfect amount of hops. Having a rich textured palate with an underlying sweetness true to tradition.

I found the Oktoberfest to have the following characteristics…

  • Appearance: Clear amber with good foam and lacing.
  • Aroma: Sweet malt and spice.
  • Taste: Sweet, malty with a little ginger spice and a nice, smooth finish.
  • ABV: 5.9%

This was a very good beer. Easy drinking and session worthy, I will definitely look for this beer next Fall.
