Recently, I went to Victor’s Liquors and picked up a mixed six. One of the bottles was Southern Tier 2XIPA. This double IPA comes from the Southern Tier Brewery in Lakewood, NY. While they may have only been open since 2002, Southern Tier is building a reputation as a world class brewer. G-LO has reviewed their Harvest Ale and their award winning Pumking Imperial Pumpkin Ale. Their “Unearthly” pale ale, “Hoppe” Imperial Extra Pale Ale, and classic IPA have also won numerous awards.

Here is what Southern Tier has to say about their 2XIPA:

Not quite an imperial, but certainly not a standard India pale ale. Our double IPA is a hop lovers dream. Citrusy and clean with an incredible finish. .

I found the 2XIPAto have the following characteristics…

  • Appearance: The color of ginger ale with nice foam and good lacing.
  • Aroma: Sweet, fruity and hoppy.
  • Taste: Smooth, full-bodied and refreshing with a slightly bitter finish.
  • ABV: 8.2%

I think Southern Tier sells itself short when it says this isn’t an imperial because their 2XIPA is just as good as one. I found this to be flavorful, well balanced, and very refreshing.
