A while ago, my better half picked me up a bottle of Neuschwansteiner Bavarian Lager. I think I have may have mentioned that these types of purchases (cigars, whisky, beers) are a part of her passive/aggressive attempts to do me in. Whether they are or not, is immaterial to me as I get the benefit of her attempts and if I have got to go, I will go quite content. Anyway, the bottle was perfect for me as it suited my typical purchasing profile, i.e. the bottle was very pretty and the contents were wet.
The wife and I had actually toured the Neuschwanstein Castle in what she refers to as our courting/newlywed stage. Of course, the kids came along and that brought that stage to a crashing halt. While the picture on the bottle captured the castle in all of its glory, I could only hope that the beer inside was its equal. The beer is brewed by Der HirschBrau/Privatbrauerei Höss in Sonthofen, Germany. It is sold as a Helles Lager but is marketed as a Bavarian Lager in the U.S.

So, basically they have nothing to say about this beer.
Here are my impressions of this beer…
- Appearance: A clear, straw color with minimal foam and lacing.
- Aroma: Not much aroma, A little sweet malt and a little yeasty.
- Taste: Crisp, somewhat refreshing without much flavor or finish.
- ABV: 4.7%
This was not a good beer. It was watery and flat without much of anything to report. It would rival any second run, mass-produced beer (I’m looking at you Busch and Keystone). In a word, it was meh!
