Recently, while waiting for our cruise to depart, I went on an advanced scouting trip in search of dinner. The absence of a children’s menu at the local German restaurant thwarted my efforts. Having walked nearly two whole blocks, I felt that I was entitled to some liquid refreshment and to my good fortune; the German deli (the Olde Heidelberg Deli) next door was open. I chose two bottles of ice cold German beer to quench my thirst. The first was the Kaiserdom Pilsener. Kaiserdom Privatbrauerei, a brewer from the city of Bamberg, traces its roots to a Michelburg monastery in 1718. Today, the brewery has been privately held for four generations and has an annual output of approximately 8 million gallons and distributes to twenty-five countries on five continents.

Our Kaiserdom-Pilsener has a distinctly fine hops bitterness with a fine, creamy head; a tingly, smooth taste. Kaiserdom-Pilsener is the pride of our brew masters, as it has won continuous multiple high honours of the DLG.
I found the Pilsener to be…
- Appearance: Golden Straw with lots of foam and lacing.
- Aroma: Smells like a cheap beer, lots of malt and just a hint of hops.
- Taste: Like an average beer. Sweet malt with a slight hoppy tang.
- ABV: 4.8%
This was a crisp and refreshing beer. Not the greatest beer but certainly a lawnmower beer.
