Beer Review – Full Sail Brewing Ltd Lager Series Recipe #5A while ago, I picked up a bottle from Full Sail’s Limited Edition Lager series. The bottle was Recipe #5 which is Full Sail’s take on an amber ale. As it turns out, the bottle is available from March to June and follows their special single malt, single hops lager,the #4. After the #5, Full Sail rolls out their special Pilsner, the #3 for the 3rd quarter, and then ends the year with their winter warmer, the Wassail. Here is what Full Sail has to say about their Recipe #5:

For those who love amber ales, here’s a Limited Edition Lager that is so crazy good, you might convert to lagerism. This copper colored lager is refreshingly smooth, with a hint of dark roast and a clean hoppy finish. Brewed with pale, chocolate, caramel malts and hopped with Czech Saaz hops.

I found the Recipe #5 to have the following characteristics…

  • Appearance: Maple syrup with a good foam and lacing.
  • Aroma: Sweet with a little funk.
  • Taste: Well carbonated with a good mouthfeel. There is a hint of spice that lingers in the finish.
  • ABV: 5.6%

This was a pretty good beer. If you are a fan of the amber ales, it is certainly worth a try.
