Beer Review – Carton Brewing Regular Coffee Imperial Cream Ale

A few years ago, we came to the realization that Diners in our area are at their best in the wee hours of the morning after an extended drinking session...

Eggs cooked as you like them.
Home fries.
Short stack of pancakes.
Side of scrapple.
Excessively buttered toast.
And most important of all...

Bottomless pours of regular coffee (or in Limpd's case, a tall chocolate milkshake)!

This combination of greasy and delicious excess will pretty much guarantee that you won't wake with a hangover the next morning. And by the next morning, we, of course, mean some time after 12PM.

The fine folks at Carton Brewing understand the importance of regular coffee and have brewed up their own version in the form of an Imperial Cream Ale. They call this homage Regular Coffee (makes sense, no?). Here's what they have to say about it:

A Classic Jersey-ism is "regular coffee." Here when you order a "regular coffee" at any place you trust to make a pork roll and cheese you get a paper cup of coffee with "milk and 2 sugars" rather than a "black coffee that hasn't had the caffeine removed." We added a coffee blend from our neighbors at Fair Mountain Coffee Roasters to a high gravity golden cream ale, contributing our "milk and 2 sugars" for an elevated version of classic plain coffee. Drink Regular Coffee because running over a black beer with coffee is no way to get things done.

I had a wee taste of this beer several years ago at a bottle share event at Keg N Kitchen in Westmont, NJ, so today's episode of A Tasting at The Murder Table is a reunion of sorts. To see and hear if this beer is as good as I remember, click the play button on the following video:
